How many times do we see this Bible verse printed on coffee mugs or hear people use this verse after they bowl a high score or win at a sporting event? And while it is a true statement, the world tends to use it in an unBiblical way. Many can do non-Christian things like yoga allegedly through Christ which strengthens them, or run a 5k through Christ which strengthens them, but do not want to crucify their flesh through Christ which strengthens them and stop getting drunk, smoking, using profanity, yoga or other sinful activity.
It is important to know that Jesus DOES want to enable everyone to do all things through Him but He is not going to give people His blessing to do things that are displeasing to Him or strengthen people to do things who are in rebellion to Him.
Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. John 9:31
All have sinned against a Holy God (Romans 3:23) but thankfully for Jesus we can do all things through Him who strengthens us and overcome the sins that have dominion in our life! It is very important that we obey Jesus, do HIS will and repent of our sin and pick up our cross daily and follow Him. Then, when we are in His will He will strengthen us to live our daily lives as Christians heading toward an eternity in Heaven! The world loves to pick and choose Bible verses and change them into motivational statements like they often do with Phillipians 4:13. As Christians it is important to understand WHAT it is that Christ wants us to do and strengthen us for and not what it is that our flesh wants to do and what sounds good to the world. There is hope for salvation in Jesus!
